His eminence Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, head of the International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) led IUMS Press Conference pursuant to its Annual Meeting in Doha.

The IUMS Resolution of October 30, 2010 includes issues relating to Bangladesh at the end of its Annual Meeting.

The Bangladesh issues are incorporated in item 6, which states:

“On the issue of Bangladesh, the IUMS keeps abreast of what is painfully happening in the country in the current time as published by numerous media sites and reports including attempt to repeal the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution which provides for faith and confidence in Allah and Islam as the state religion, as well as the events of arrest of large numbers of well-known ulama, leaders of Islamic activities and others, and the threatened trial of them as war criminals which have sparked huge resentment throughout the Islamic and the free world.

The IUMS has discussed about these reports at its meeting of the Board of Trustees and adopted a resolution to form a committee to visit Bangladesh and closely observe the situation.

The IUMS urges the Government of Bangladesh to maintain national unity and Islamic identity that keeps the country within the perimeter of Islam and the nation as part of the Islamic Ummah. It also calls for compliance with codes of human rights as stipulated in various international treaties.”
